Endurance is fostered when inner constancy is coupled with external flexibility. Long-distance runners must adapt readily to changing conditions, while maintaining an inner determination and strength of purpose. Two trees growing near each other adapt to enhance each other's survival. A strong image of durability is a stable marriage of intimate partners striking a dynamic balance between involvement in the outside world and nourishment in the home.

True endurance is not based on rigidity, for endurance implies movement, not immobilization. Only by adapting to change can we can we stay in the race; but only by deepening our sense of purpose can we develop the fortitude to win it.

Continuity is achieved through movement, not by keeping still. That which has ceased to grow is close to death. Stay active, but allow yourself time to stay in touch with your innermost thoughts and feelings.

What will be the ultimate outcome for me of working with Ix?

According to one book I have when three lines are changing you only read the middle line.  It is interesting that I'm only really asking this question now when I've been dealing with the company for almost 5 months.  The difference is that I saw an opening to profit personally and we all know this is bad..  After years of dealing with the I-ching I should never be surprised when it answers the question behind the question, so.. what do I know?  That I must move ahead with a clear conscience and no thoughts of personal gain.  I must turn down any offers that might compromise my judgment and continue to live by the same hyper-ethical standards that I've always adhered to.  The move to darkening of the light is a perfectly appropriate metaphor for the fact that I was even considering for one second doing something other people do every day, and isn't even immoral (a seat on their "board of advisors -- a made up term to flatter people they think can leverage them), but would hopelessly compromise my perfect record of being professionally squeaky clean.

I'll have to ask the same question again in a few days when I've purged my mind of all impure thoughts and can be sure that this is the right relationship for the big O.

Question: Is it time to move on to greener pastures?

Yesterday was a bad day.  My chronic unwillingness to be the woman in the gray flannel suit hit a wall with my employer.  Granted it was very late and we were both tired but it is at those moments that the truth comes out.

"in business, pay particular attention to the support of policies that have proved themselves useful.  This is not the time to change methods of operation for the sake of change.  Instead, it is a time to make these methods work with new trends in thought.  Success now come through continuing movement toward long-standing objectives.

Based on the above advice from the I-ching it would appear I'm wrong.

Question: is it time to think about applying to grad school?  32 moving to 46

This one will take more pondering especially in light of the reading above. 

Note: 7/3/06 - It's much clearer now -- the answer was no the time was not right the draw and the connections weren't sustainable (though there was a time in the next year when it looked almost possible.)

Questions - What do I do next to find sustainable employment?
32 going to 5

A sustainable lifestyle can only derive the strength to confront crises by being able to wait, however long is necessary for opportunities to emerge, rather than being panicked into action by immediate dangers.

Note 7/3/06:  It didn't take too much longer for things to open up -- Calculated waiting was very appropriate in this case.
