27 4/24/07 Bottom line
Strive to work quietly and competently and you will achieve much while avoiding interference.

Humility is often rewarded in human affairs, just as valleys are filled by the erosion of great mountains. It is the way of the world to fill the empty cup. Regardless of your position, humility is a positive and deceptively powerful attribute. If you are in a high position but are still humble, people will be drawn to you and the causes you espouse. If your position is lowly, humility will endear you to those of higher status. True humility is a virtue to which all should aspire.  The most successful people are those who know how to bring each situation into balance by reducing that which is too great, and adding to that which is too little. Such a person craves not power, but balanced and stable relationships. Humility is the virtue which allows you to perceive the balancing force in each situation; humble people are not prey to the many illusions which grow out of self-importance. If humility is not natural to your disposition, make a conscious effort to develop a strain of self-effacing humor.  The most specific advice with regard to your question is contained

How does one define frustration, impotence and a desire to commit murder?  The project is not only failing it's unsalvageable.  I'm very good at taking action but when faced with this I have to admit that it seemed an obvious time to get some guidance from some place other than myself.

Ch'ien symbolizes holding one's words, keeping one's opinion to oneself.

I was surprised at the council because it implies to me that there is truly nothing I can do but look foolish if I attempt to continue to demand changes.  We have requested the project be stopped.  We simply need to go through the motions, wasting as little money as possible until management agrees.

Note: 3/13/07 - The situation was unsalvageable.  Part of the problem was the vendor had been bought by a large consulting company (who much later actually became a client of mine).  At the same time the company I was working for sold a major division to the same company.  Bottom line was our problems (even at a total cost of $5M in wasted project costs) simply wasn't significant enough to bother with -- also the senior VP we were looking to for support ultimately took a job with the acquiring company.  So no there was nothing for me to do and nothing to be gained from obsessive table pounding.

Question: How did I fail to communicate properly to my project sponsor?

in changing line 3:  Note that this is different than the meaning up above.

"There are few sadder sights than that of someone who is dazzled by his or her own fame, beauty or brilliance. Success for such people is usually short-lived, because in order to persevere to the end, some degree of simple humanity is needed to gain the continued support of others. Conversely, there are few more noble achievements in creation, than that of  a person who, despite great success, retains his or her humility."

Moving to 2

Communication is a combination of words and presence.   It's strange that I'm only now understanding that I have discounted what my presences says and have relied entirely on my words and then been misunderstood or misperceived.  Even as I write this it comes clearer to me that this is the piece I've been missing.

"What you are speaks so loudly I can not hear what you say"

When one radiates an aura of personal power then words that would be fine from a more modest appearing person become egotistical from a person of power.  Do women have more trouble with this then men?  Don't know -- this whole thing will bear much more thought.

Note: 3/13/07  - While I believe that I correctly understood what I should do back in July what I didn't realize was how accurately those words above described my sponsor.  He was in it for glory and power and it ultimately cost him his job.  I need to be very careful to take this lesson to heart.  Given the answer to the question I asked today.  I have failed in the past because I believed that a firm that hired me wanted my independent view.  What they want is my energy and my power focused on their priorities.  There is no room for independence.

Question:  outlook for any work with JAC to set up a branch office here in the PNW.

"With an unwavering commitment and hard work, you gain honor and fame.  do not allow such recognition to lead you astray or put you in a compromising position.  Maintaining the perseverance that brought you prominence will win you continued support.  You can then bring your work to completion"

All the readings for line three seem to discuss not taking my eye off the ball.  If I stand back from this for a minute -- I need to assume that JAC pitch to me had nothing to do with any strong assessment of my skills or fondest for me.  Like any salesman it's a numbers game and if something falls his way he might need me.  I will need to update this in a month or so with the outcome but my guess is that this is the universe asking me if I will be responsive to left field opportunities and all

Note: 3/13/07 Nothing ever came of this. It goes back to the principle of magnetic attraction.  When you feel you need something the universe will often respond with something that isn't sustainable in the long run.

Advice for Thursday interview with Analyst firm

15 going to 31

Changing line 4

There will be harvest when moving with team-words.
Do what you have to do, without any pretension and without having yourself in your mind, as if everything gets fixed by itself. This is essential social thinking. Not following social rules, but following the inborn social touch.

Changing line 5

"Do not stay a proud person and die by starvation. Get what you need, even if it means taking up lowly jobs, forgetting your principles or losing your macho. A healthy dog is better than a dead superman. Who says supermen are so great anyway?

I think the point has to be that you go vigorously about getting what you need, that it's more important to have food on the table than to be virtuous. It strikes me as quite simple, like the rat-like creature of the title ideogram, which will just take what it needs from your grain stores.
