Hexagram 35 - Progress

Moving to Date
    Unchanging -
16 12/4/98 Top Line
When strong, energetic action is required to achieve progress, make certain that your ducks are in a row before you begin. Be particularly careful to avoid overly energetic initiatives to those with whom you do not enjoy a close relationship. If a bridge can't handle the weight, don't use it.

It is wise now to act with gentleness, reserve and moderation regardless of the fact that you are in a position of great influence.

Fourth Line
Progress is coming through questionable means or inferior persons.  Although it is possible to advance this way the truth will nevertheless come to light.  This is all very risky and you may find yourself in a dangerous position
53 12/30/02 Third Line
With the solid support of others you are able to venture onward with the work

Second Line
27 4/28/98 Bottom line
You are restrained from advancing because others lack confidence in you. Do not try and force the issue and don't become angry.  Remain calm and behave with generosity and warmth

The general situation is one of easy, natural progress. What has been weak is steadily ascending, and by gaining a prominent position, becomes more powerful. The image is the light of the rising sun, which at first appears dimly through the mists. But this weak light later radiates with powerful clarity once the sun has reached a high position in the sky.

Progress is made when those in subordinate positions make peace with those above, and in so doing create a natural means for their talents and abilities to become prominent. It is by recognizing and riding with the natural course of events- by hitching our wagon to the rising sun, as it were - that we advance our position and earn respect.

Don't forget, that goodness in human nature is like the dim but beautiful early morning light. It can easily be obscured - by greed, hatred and other forms of self-absorption - just as the morning light can be swallowed by fog. Be reminded that progress is achieved most effortlessly when right action is taken without concern for immediate reward, and when the path of the weaker aligns with that which is strong.

Question: Impact of making a job change now .

35 progress moving to 27 Nourishing.

To see progress as the answer to this question might imply that the time to go is now but the lines seem to tell the story that there might not be any place to go to right at the moment.

Progress seems to be thwarted. If you lack confidence, remain calm and accept that your influence may not yet be strong enough to achieve great progress. Though advancement is fervently sought by many, the hour for you to play a leading role may not yet have come. If that is the case, do not feel downhearted or resentful because no one is paying attention to you. Remain calm and dedicated and you will avoid serious mistakes which could block your progress altogether.

The movement of the hexagram to 27 also seems to highlight the first reading I got this morning when I asked if I should leave in Sept (42 going to 27). One of the reasons to record readings is that things will come full circle and they'll refer to themselves.   When I first considered taking a job with a consulting company, I got 42 - Benefit in it's static form.  To get it again now that I'm considering ending this experience tells me something. (that what benefit I had to receive I've gotten and the situation has now changed from it's static form to a moving form).  The movement to 27 tells me that I have to focus on what truly nourishes me.

5/1/04 --Update - As I've commented elsewhere it turned out the decision to go or stay was made by others.  The commentary on the changing line was so accurate as to be painful.  My next assignment was definitely better than the one I was in when I asked the question above.  I guess nourishment is a relative term.

Question: Got a call  from DB about a potential assignment in Iowa.  Asked about outcome of contacting the manager in charge of the account.

35 progress moving to 16 Enthusiasm

I'm certainly going to follow up on it.  It creates an interesting conflict.   I want to work.  I would like to have been successful at Big software company but I'm very tired of being on the road and I would like to focus my life else where.  Of course as BD said a bird in the hand is worth 55 in the bush.

5/1/04 --Update:  Nothing ever came of this opportunity but my absolute willingness to do this assignment is what got me the assignment a few months later that I absolutely loved.  I don't know why I never realized until this moment in time that the two things were connected.  The assignment I loved simply seemed to come to me like manna from heaven and I accepted it without question even though I was curious as to why it was given to me and not to someone else.  Looking back on it the answer is clear -- I people who made that decision knew me, and they knew me because of this "failed" opportunity.

Question: Long term impact of making a move to SPI

35 progress moving to 20 Contemplation with 2 changing line

This is fascinating.  I'm using the stones and not the web and the answers I'm getting do seem different.  Course I could be reading the stones wrong.  Any way the impression I'm getting is that SPI would give me some predictability in my life leading to some peace. Question: Changing my email address to that of my own company

35 moving to 53 (gradual progress)

I'm very suspicious of this answer all of a sudden - rereading all the other times I've gotten it, it's either been wrong or I have failed to understand it's impact.  This sounds like a small question but something has been at work here for a long time
