Decided it was time to do a little career planning. Things at the big phone company can't go on forever and if I have to make a change I'd like to make the right one.
One alternative is to pursue something with a larger consulting company. Asking that question I got #42 Increase with no changing lines. Reading the interpretation for some reason I got the impression that it could be a rather difficult situation - one where I would feel like I was starting over again at the bottom.Tuesday November 17, 1998 - Update

What might not have been clear from my comment above was that in late Nov/early Dec of that year I got a call from a recruiter asking me if I was interested in working for a big consulting company. Things did not go smoothly anywhere along the line BUT I ended up working for them for three years and the entire time I was there it had an overtone of fatedness about it. The key thing to make clear was that I did absolutely nothing to get the recruiter to call me. In fact to this day I can't see how she got my number since she called me at my client site on their internal number.Monday June 1, 1998

Readings are really only significant when tied back to reality. I did call M.O. in June but we weren't able to get together because I started a new project and I felt much too committed at that point to really consider leaving the company. We did finally meet for lunch in October and it turned out she desperately needed a friend to talk to about her problems on her job. The essence of the changing line was that my isolation and just worrying about my problems was keeping me from being there when she needed me. This reading actually points up one of the strengths of using something like the I-Ching. I asked a question about a job and got an answer that said to me "Quit worrying about yourself. There are other people who's needs are greater than yours and you're not helping."

According to Chinese Astrology, 42 is my natal hexagram. I would now read the answers above to say the decision to join Big software company, to turn down P** and ultimately to take the job that entailed relocating to California was the way things were trending from the beginning. Nothing I write here should sound like I was simply casting my fate to the wind. I wanted to go home and every move I've ever made with this company was intended to give me the option of returning to California.

Got this twice in one night with two changes in the lines and the outcome. The outcome was the same as the base hexagram I got earlier this evening. So we have 27 moving to 23, 42 moving to 23 and then 42 moving to 27. For there to be nourishment some thing has to split apart.
