Hexagram #48 - The Well or the Source
Moving to Date Unchanging - It will take the co-operation of several others to achieve your aim. Do not neglect to truly investigate the aspect of human nature at work in the situation and sue these insights to organize others and implement you plan Top Line Fifth Line - Ruling line 31
2/15/99
Fourth Line - One is engaged in self-perfection, personal development, preparation and practice. One is building up one's abilities for the time whey they will be used. Make use of this time and get the most out of it 29 2/2/99
3/6/04Third Line
The well is clean, but is not being used. This is a shame, for like an abandoned well, your abilities are not being recognized - to your own chagrin, and to the detriment of others also. If someone in a high position (or perhaps the highest part of yourself) recognizes your abilities - then great good fortune.2/15/99
Second Line- The ability is there but it is not being put to the best use. This comes from inadequate metal exercise and mixing with the wrong people. If you do not use it you tend to lose it after a while and what you could have given becomes harder to give. To change this state of affairs you need to sharpen up see #43) Bottom line Throughout various cultures and political systems of the world, the well has served as a universal symbol for that which sustains life and provides a constant, inexhaustible source of nourishment for mankind. For the life-force, in other words.
Like the well, human nature is the same around the world. The passage of time cannot add to its essential dimensions, nor take anything away. Still, just as a well can be deepened to produce clearer, cleaner water, so can we enrich our lives by delving deeply into our essential natures.
Beware of shallow thinking; like a little learning, it can be dangerous. The image of the well suggests that with depth comes clarity. Be patient, and penetrate both problems and your own nature to the core. If you do not lower your bucket to the depths, you're very likely to come up empty. When greater depth is desired, a lessening of speed is often required.Tuesday February 2, 1999
Question: SPI looks like a good solution to all of my problems and concerns but is it an opportunity that will materialize?
48 - the Well moving to # 29 Danger
Rephrasing the question finally started to get things through my head. I want this situation to work because I'm unhappy but no amount of wishing can make something be something other than what it is. The strange thing is that I'm not having any internal sense that the situation is as Dangerous as it appears. When I asked the Runes about taking a job with the #3 computer maker, I knew that I would end up walking out the door, which I did two years after I started. Maybe in I get down to NC I might actually see what the I-Ching is warning me about.
PS. I now realize that the danger was not with SPI but with moving off my path. There was something else I was suppose to do and I needed to stay with O. to do it. The lesson of the I-Ching often takes a little a while to understand.

Question: What will be the outcome of the collaboration project I'm working on now?48 moving to 31
10/22/2005 When you ask an open ended question like this the i-ching is free to see far beyond our immediate scope and definition of the problem. It is now 5 years later and I'm working once again with the same man I worked for then attempting to get the same type of product to market. So the answer was I would establish a relationship of mutual influence in this space -- not that the project would be successful.
03/12/07 I never did co-write with AG. I ended up buried and he wrote it on his own. We're still in touch but not product. On the other hand I have been collaborating with RV and RK over the years so it's not as if I'm opposed to a co-author

Question: What will be the outcome of the work on team services48 - the Well moving to # 29 Danger
I now understand that this say -- too bad so sad, good effort but not meant to be.
Moving line three
The well is cleaned, but no one drinks from it.
This is my heart's sorrow,
For one might draw from it.
If the king were clear-minded,
Good fortune might be enjoyed in common. An able man is available. He is like a purified well whose water is drinkable. But no use is made of him. This is the sorrow of those who know him. One wishes that the prince might learn about it; this would be good fortune for all concerned.

Outlook for (a large analyst firm) responding to my application for an analyst position.
48 unchanging
Have to say that I'm disappointed that all the information here is for opportunities that didn't pan out. I keep telling myself that this is wonderful no matter what they decide. I've always had in the back of my mind that everything I've been doing has been leading to a position with Gartner. Of course I've never been able to admit that to myself for fear of failure. Now the universe has aligned and it appears that I will get my answer if no answer can be construed as an answer. I applied for three positions so if they reject me it will be a total rejection.
"So dig a well, keep it clean and drink from it, then the water will always be fresh and pure. Don’t depend on an occasional shower, it works only temporarily, when it is over, everything will dry up again. But your own well never dries up. The source is always there, but it will only fill the well if it is being taken care of. Never leave the place where your well is situated. "'The Dao of wells cannot help but involve Radical Change
You will cope out of the wellspring of strength and life that has not gone away - it has not changed or diminished just because your circumstances are difficult. The only difficult question is how you will reach the water - can you find a long enough rope, can you preserve your fragile vessel?
Imagine the sheer miracle, for the writers of the I Ching, that life-giving water can emerge from a dark, muddy pit. This is not the same as water from a tap, or even rain water - you have to dig and reach into the darkness for it, but it will be there."
