June 1

Tempesta's Day. In the Green Rose tradition this day is sacred to Circe.  This is a day to honor the power of the Goddess who can come and wreck havoc in your life in the same way we would honor the power of a tornado or an earthquake.  This is a day to honor the fact that there truly are things that are more powerful then we are and to understand that we can't control everything.

June 2

5th HOUSE - Generic Meaning
The Fifth House is also known as the House of Pleasure . It describes romance, creativity, children, fun, talent, gambling, and enjoyment. It also rules the dramatic, and one's artistic ability. It represents the heart and back and is ruled by the sign Leo and the Sun  in the solar chart

I have Gemini on the cusp of the fifth house and since Gemini is the sign of mental energy and the fifth house denotes creativity the fifth house becomes much more heavily emphasized as a mental house rather than as a house of pleasure at least for me.  With that said the right thing to do during this period is something creative.  I could return to writing the book I started, I could work on theses web pages, of write something, anything to honor the energy of this period.  This is would also be a good time to do spells to enhance my creativity especially during the period from the 2nd through the full moon.

2nd Day of Carna, Goddess of Physical Survival, Doors, and Locks, in Rome (Syn the Norse Goddess of Inclusion and Exclusion is similar)  Carna (Carne) acted as guardian of the larger organs of the body (heart, lungs, and liver), of domestic life, and the life of man. She warded off all the influences of evil spirits. She “opens what is closed, and closes what is open.” Doors and windows should be repaired on this day especially considering Tempestas, might have done some damage from the day before

June 3

moonfaz.gif (204 bytes)First Quarter at 13°13 Virgo
4:06 pm PDT

This is the day of the First Quarter Moon in Virgo. The First Quarter Moon is always a time to stand on one's own feet, to lay down a base of operations, to find a place to be.  The Gemini Sun has lots of ideas; the Virgo Moon tests them and discards those "that won't work."  A proper balance between information and analysis needs to be struck.  At some point in any project, one ceases to gather data and begins to cull the useful from the noise

On the 8th day of the fifth lunar month, the Chinese honor the Mother of the Sea Dragon, the goddess of the sea who prevents disasters to children and calamities at sea. She rides across the sky on clouds, consulting the winds, who are her servants, to learn of sailors in trouble so she can rescue them.

In one myth, she is the deeply psychic sister of four fishermen. One day, she falls into a deep trance and becomes angry when her parents wake her. Shortly afterwards, three of her brothers return home and tell about how she appeared to them and saved them from drowning. She was just about to rescue the fourth brother when she disappeared. Another myth relates that she was a poor young woman, begging for a passage on a boat to an island. Everyone turned her down except one poor fisherman. During their journey, a storm sprang up which destroyed all the boats but his.

St. Kevin's Day (patron of Ireland) - Glendalough is one of my favorite spots (or at least it was before it became touristy)  And for that reason alone I'd put this day on my calendar.  For the rest of you - this is a good day to get in touch with Merlin's aspect as the man of the forest

On arrival in Glendalough Kevin chose the area of the upper lake and settled on the south side of the foot of that lake in St. Kevin's Bed, an artificial cave about thirty feet above the level of the lake which was originally a Bronze Age tomb. Kevin lived the life of a hermit there with an extraordinary closeness to nature, his companions were the animals and birds all around him. He lived as a hermit for seven years wearing only animal skins, sleeping on stones and eating very sparingly.

Whitsunday was at one time a Pagan fertility festival, and was celebrated throughout Europe on this day with a "heathen feast" signifying the death of the Winter Spirit and the birth of the Summer Spirit. (the timing is the 7th Sunday after Easter)

June 5

Venus enters Leo until 7/14.

The Irish saint, Gobnatt, is a version of the Goddess Domna, patroness of sacred stones and cairns. The center of Her worship was at Ballyvourney, county Cork, Ireland.

June 6

The Dragon Boat Festival is a movable Chinese festival that has attracted world wide attention and participation because people seem to love the concept of racing dragon boats.  Here we honor our Viking ancestors (the real dragon boat people in our humble mind) as well as all sea dragons

June 7

The eight-day long festival Vestalia began on this date in ancient Rome in honor of the hearth Goddess Vesta. The shrine of Vesta was opened to married women at this time, but at it's conclusion, the shrine was once again forbidden to all except the Goddess' attendant Vestal Virgins.

Fornax
The Romans celebrated the festival of Fornax, goddess of ovens, by hanging garlands of flowers on ovens and wreaths on the necks of the mules who turned the mills.

As part of Vestalia all mill-donkeys were given a day of rest on 9 June, as well as being decorated with garlands and loaves of bread.

June 10

Her name comes from the Greek word tynchano "made to happen", and could mean "good fortune" or "success" on the one hand, and "chance" or "luck" on the other. Praying to a Goddess who had control over uncertainty was a means of gaining some measure of certainty in life. Frequently she was addressed as Tyche Soteira (Tyche the Savior) or Agathe Tyche (Good Fortune).

Tyche is often depicted as a standing woman steering a course with a rudder in her right hand and holding a cornucopia in her left.  The rudder indicates that Tyche directs the life of men; and the horn of Amaltheia calls attention to the giving of good things and prosperity. She was also associated with a globe to symbolize her universal rule, or, as on coins, a wheel - an image of changeability

The beginning of the Celtic tree Month for Oak/Duir, the moon of strength

Magic wands were made of its wood. Oak galls, known as Serpent Eggs, were used in magical charms. Acorns gathered at night held the greatest fertility powers. The Druids and Priestesses listened to the rustling oak leaves and the wrens in the trees for divinatory messages. Burning oak leaves purifies the atmosphere. It can be used in spells for protection, strength, success and stability; the different varieties will lend their own special 'flavor' to the magic.

Physical- A hands-on approach will nurture the skills you wish to have. Step through the door, one learns by doing.
Mental- You have accumulated acorns of wisdom, the time for dropping and sharing your wisdom is here.
Spiritual- You as a teacher or student must be tough and resilient despite life's unpredictability as an Oak is to the bolt of lightening. Strong and wise

St Anthony's Day
St Anthony is, a 13th century scholar and preacher, who is now invoked to find lost property, as in this rhyme:

St. Anthony, Anthony , Please look around
Something is lost that has to be found

I freely admit that I invoke St. Anthony on an all too regular basis.  I also have to admit he's pretty good at helping my find things I've misplaced

In ancient Rome, this was the start of a three day festival during which the guild of pipers (who played for sacrifices, funerals and feasts) celebrated with drinking, roaming the streets, dressing in masks and women's clothes and singing. The festivities began at the Temple of Minerva who (as Athena) invented the pipes.

The Nativity of the Muses, Natalis Musarum, is celebrated. According to Hesiod the Muses are the daughters of Mnemosyne (Memory) by Zeus. Their names and attributes are Calliope (epics), Clio (history), Euterpe (lyrical song), Thalia (comedy), Melpomene (tragedy), Terpsichore (dance), Erato (erotic poetry), Polymnia or Polyhymnia (hymns), and Urania (astronomy).

New Moon at 8°13 pm  Gemini
10:28 pm PDT
Sabian Symbol:

Gemini new moon stimulates communications and correspondences with family members and personal matters that have not completely surfaced yet. This is in relation to those areas that you have kept well under wraps hoping they just might go away. It also blends in well with sorting out and clearing old problems. Paving the way for newness and so leaving something that has served its purpose.

This Moon stimulates all mental activities for Gemini's while creating some difficult situations that can also be ironed out.

On this date in ancient Rome, the Goddess Minerva (an aspect of Athena) was honored annually at her sacred festival, the Lesser Quinquatrus. Minerva was the patroness of wisdom and the arts, and also a deity of battle.

Last Day of the Vestalia Festival

The birthday of the Muses were celebrated on this date in ancient times.

Day dedicated to celebrating the faery Goddess Aine of Knockaine, in Ireland

June 15th Mercury SR at 11°36' Cancer until 7/9.

June 16

On this date, Fairy Day took place in ancient Ireland. Irish folklore says that on this day the mischievous fairy folk emerge from their hiding places. To prevent children from being stolen away by the faeries and replaced with grotesque changelings, an offering of milk or better yet cream and butter should be left on the doorstep for the "wee folk."

June 17

In Celtic cultures, the Festival of the Oak Nymph was celebrated annually on this date to honor all hamadryads (female natures spirits who inhabit oak trees). Neo-Pagans may choose to decorate their altar with acorns and wear oak leaves in the hair. Kiss an oak tree or place a small offering of some kind before it, and the tree nymphs who dwell within it will bestow a blessing upon you.

Mugwort Day
On the fifth day of the fifth Chinese month, dolls made of mugwort, a symbol of felicity, are hung over doors. Mugwort, the silvery artemisia vulgaris, is sacred in the Western tradition to Artemis whose temples were often centers of healing.

In ancient Ireland, the Midsummer Eve was dedicated to the faery Goddess Aine who inhabits Cnoc 'Aine of Kerry County. Aine was a Sun Goddess of love and fertility, but also associated with the moon. She is said to have planted an entire hill of peas in one night. Torches of hay and straw were waived over crops and cattle to bring luck and increase to fields and pastures, while guarding humans against illness and infertility.

Uranus Retrograde - The electric planet of revolution is turning inward for the next five months (until November 16th the day of the full moon). Liberation comes from within during this period. Trust your intuition as you face and then break internal bonds that have limited your imagination.

June 21

the Sun enters Cancer
 11:07 am PDT

When the Sun is in Cancer, things may get a little moody and emotional. While Cancer motivates us to reflect on our pasts, to draw our loved ones near to us and to nurture others without asking for nurturing in return, this Moon-ruled Water Sign can really make us grumpy. That said, Cancer could be a time of heightened emotional sensitivity, a time when the cerebral connections forged under the Gemini Sun move to a more intimate plateau. Flirtatious affections take on a greater gravity during this time as the Cancer Sun exposes our emotions and lays bare our vulnerabilities. Socializing takes a backseat to nostalgic memories and quiet nights at home. Food and family become very important at this time, as they provide us an opportunity to nurture one another and give us the most basic and unconditional of loves -- the very thing we need most right now.

A good time for:

Persons born under the sign of the Crab are said to be family and home-oriented, nurturing, sympathetic, and often very moody. Cancer is a water sign and is ruled by the Moon.

Welcome to Midsummer's Day. Alas 'tis also a Monday, so for most, the customary romping and feasting shall be condensed into a 45 minute session with a bag of cheese doodles

The first day of Summer normally occurs on or near this date, and the Midsummer Sabbat or Summer Solstice (also known as Alban, Hefin, and Letha) is celebrated by Witches and Pagans throughout the world on this date. Midsummer is the longest day of the year when the Sun is at its zenith. In many Wiccan traditions, Midsummer symbolizes the end of the reign of the waxing year's Oak-King, who is now replaced by the Holly-King of the waning year (who rules until Winter Solstice). It is the ideal time for divinations, Healing rituals, and the cutting of divining rods, dowsing rods, and wands.

6th HOUSE: - Generic Meaning

The Sixth House is also known as the House of Health . It is your job, routine, daily responsibilities, diet, employees, pets, and physical fitness. It also describes fulfilling your duty and obligations, and the conscious mind. It represents the stomach and intestines and is ruled in the solar chart by the sign Virgo and the planet Mercury .

In my personal chart Cancer is on the cusp of the sixth house and that means that the Cancer influence on the sixth house creates a tendency for me to become deeply and emotionally involved in work. In fact I've been accused of being more emotionally involvement in my work than in my personal affairs. Generally if you have cancer on the cusp of this house you need to be aware that if you are dissatisfied with what you do for a living, it will cause emotional upset and adversely affect your health.

Appleton, England is the site of the centuries old Pagan tree-worship ritual known as Bamming the Thorn, held annually on this date. The boughs of a large and very old hawthorn tree are decorated with flowers, flags, and ribbons.

Good Day to you, you merry men all
Come listen to our rhyme
For we would have you not forget
This is Midsummer time
So bring your rushes, bring your garlands
Roses, John's Wort, Vervain too
Now is the time for our rejoicing
Come along good men, come along do.

June 30

June 30th is a Full Moon at 8°25' Capricorn at 6:49 am PDT,

It's the Burning of the Three Fires in Thann, France today, which celebrates three 'stars' which moved to a spot over the forest in the 12th century and then stopped, marking the village's founding.  Consider celebrating this holiday as the day where we recognize and know our place of power.
