Sabian Symbol:
A Fellowship Super Reunites Old Comrades

Scorpio (a feminine water sign) is the keeper of secrets, and a good time to try and unlock occult wisdom through divination and ritual. It is also a very fertile sign and a good time to work on fertility and sex magic. Matters pertaining to deceit, trustworthiness, and things hidden are best dealt with now. Scorpio is the sign of ambition, and spells for personal promotion work well at this time. Ruled by Pluto, the sign is linked to the work of the dead, and conditions for solid magic for the spirit world are optimal.

A festival known as Reign of the Old Woman Cailleach is celebrated annually on this day by Pagans throughout the world in honor of the ancient Celtic Crone-Goddess. In Scotland, she was called Caledonia. Robert Graves believes that the Cailleach was another form of the Irish Scathach and the Norse Skadi. Medieval legend turned her into the Black Queen of a western paradise.

Modern Witches celebrate the day after Samhain with a feast commemorating fruition, maturity, immortality, and resurrection.

All Soul's Day in England. Small offerings known as soul cakes are traditionally set out for the dead every year on this date.

November 3

The medieval Irish prophet St. Malachy, the "Irish Nostradamus," is commemorated today. In Celtic tradition, this is the day for starting new enterprises and the day the cattle are taken from the hills to the lowlands for wintertime.

November 5

In England every year on this night (the Eve of Guy Fawkes Day), a Pagan festival celebrated in ancient England honoring the Lord of Death took place every year. Today's bonfires and pranks associated with England's Mischief Night are actually remnants of the old Pagan customs.

November 6

The birth of Tiamat (the ancient Babylonian Goddess known as Dragon Mother) is celebrated on this day. Tiamat and her consort Apsu gave birth to all the Gods of the world, and the earth and heavens were created from Dragon Mother's severed body, according to mythology.

November 7

There was a festival called Fuigo-Matsuri every autumn in Edo. Fuigo means bellows in English and Matsuri means festival. During the festival blacksmiths stopped their works and put out the fire in their smithy. And they dedicated the bellows and lots of oranges on the household Shinto alter in each smithy. The end of the festival the oranges were thrown to children. In modern day the festival now honors Inari or Hettsui No Kami, Goddess of the Kitchen Range

Sun opposite Mars: November 7th @ 2:58 am. From 15º 00 ‘Scorpio to Mars at 15º 00’ Taurus. This is the big event; the crux of the Mars retrograde cycle. Today Mars rises at sunset and rules the night sky, where the Sun cannot come. The Sun is king, Mars the warrior.  The Sun is our heart’s desire, the spirit that infuses our solar system and each one of us with light. Mars is the warrior.  The king needs his warriors.  Only now, when retrograde does the warrior question the king. ‘You light up the day’, says Mars, ‘but now the night is mine.  Tell me why I should do as you wish?’  Everything looks different at night.  Ask the ones who can’t sleep.  The ones who work the night shift.  It’s a different world.

moonfaz.gif (204 bytes)First Quarter Moon at 27°15 Aquarius
12:07 pm PST

The Moon has now waxed up to the First Quarter mark in the sign of Aquarius making this a day of creative and perhaps unusual progress. Aquarius influence emphasizes reaching out towards a body of light and information which will benefit everyone. The Moon in Aquarius changes our concepts, ideas, and work ethics as we begin to see how much easier we can make life and our workload through an innovative approach to our work. Aquarius calls for the need to break through outmoded methods of achieving progress and sets the precedents of what we accept as fixed scientific knowledge

Radicalizing traditionally entrenched systems by embracing openness to innovative views is a very Aquarian act. Think about how you can become a force for change at your workplace, in your neighborhood, and at home. Change is good!

Gwynn ap Nudd, lord of the fairies world opens the door to the physical world today.

November 10 - Old November Eve

Old November Eve was celebrated on this date in olden times throughout the Scottish countryside. The Goddess Nicnevin as an aspect of Diana was honored with prayers and feasts, and it was believed she rode through the air with her entourage between the night hours of 9 and 10, and made herself visible to mortals on this night.

November 11 - Old November Day

A festival called the Day of the Heroes is celebrated annually on this day by Pagans and Wiccans in northern Europe. The ancient deities of the Norse mythos are honored with prayers and merry feasts.

The House of Social Status . It describes one's vocation, career, profession, ambition, reputation, authority, prestige, one's achievements as well as one's father and his influence. It represents the skin, teeth, bones and shins

The Scorpio influence on the tenth house suggests the display of a degree of intensity and determination toward making your mark in the world. There is much drive to succeed in whatever you set out to do, and you are naturally able to impress others with the forcefulness of your mind. Some field of research in which you can dig out bits of information necessary to solve major problems may be the best place for you to concentrate career efforts. You project yourself to the world in very powerful and confident ways. You are inventive and determined to succeed; a strong combination.

November 17

Feast of St. Hilda (patron of business women) - The story of St. Hilda is an interesting one. In the 600's Hilda started off her career running a monastery.  She was good enough at one that she quickly was put in charge of a second.  From there she became councilor to Princes and Kings.  Not bad for a woman back then.  Bottom line is if she could do it -- then nothing really stands in our way today.

Leonid meteor storm peaks This is expected to be a real drop-off year for the Leonids, as it returns to being an average shower for the next three decades.

November 18

Feast of Sekhmet. and the Purifying Flame

Mars square Saturn.  Consider the consequences of getting what you want.  Some say that each of us gets what we deserve, in the end.  Time to measure whether the risk is worth the consequence.  The price may seem too high, the risk too great.   This is not the end.

November 19

Day of Tyche - This day will vary in everyone's calendar -- determine your part of fortune in your chart (all most all charting services input this one without being asked).  Once you find the degree then find the date and dedicate it to your own Goddess of Good Fortune.

The Persian Goddess believed to be the Mother of the Stars, Ardvi, is honored annually on this date with a sacred festival called the Ardvi Sura (The Day of Ardvi). The festival takes place under nighttime stars, and has been celebrated in Southwestern Asia since ancient times.

November 21

Sun in Sagittarius

When the Sun is in Sagittarius, adventure finds a way into our otherwise routine and busy lives. This Fire Sign energy compels us to explore farther away from our homes and habits, to speak to those we might otherwise avoid out of apathy or anxiety, to create our own history by taking chances and making bold choices. Creativity and storytelling thrive under this Sign's influence, as Jupiter, a benevolent planet of good fortune and philosophy, rules it. Conversely, during this freewheeling time, you may have a hard time settling down to work or putting up with a schedule or deadlines. And you may be feeling dogmatic, too. As a Mutable Sign, though, Sagittarius will be adaptable and willing to listen to other sides of an argument. Watch for broken bones or mishaps with this increased sense of adventure, courage and determination. On the whole, Sagittarius is an exploratory, optimistic energy. Put it to good use!

A good time for:

  • Travel and adventure of all kinds
  • Seeing and believing the best in people
  • Reading and deep thought

November 22

Saint Clement (the patron of ironworkers) is honored with elaborate rituals on this day in England. In ancient times, however, this day was celebrated with a Pagan feast in honor of the wizard-blacksmith of the Saxon deities.

November 23

lstqtr.gif (202 bytes)Last Quarter Moon at 1°4 Virgo
2:11 pm PST

A time for withdrawal. Take care of loose ends and forgotten details. Get ready for new cycle. The moon tells us to let go of pettiness and look at the big picture. An overemphasis on moral judgments could be a problem. It's time to let go and let divine wisdom take its course. Creativity and affairs of the heart have top billing now, and much healing will occur as we allow spontaneous expression, unfettered by preset ideas of right and wrong.

Thought for the week

What do you want to paint on your canvas during the week of Last Quarter Moon?

A rice harvest celebration called the Shinjosai Festival for Konohana-Hime is held yearly on this date in Japan. It is dedicated to the granddaughter Goddess of the solar deity Amaterasu.

Start of the Celtic Tree Month Elder
Although the flowers and bark of the elder yield therapeutic substances, and elder flowers and berries make good wine, the tree has a reputation for evil. It is associated with witchcraft and death, along with the yew, cypress and nightshade. Sticks of Elder were used as magical horses by Witches. Elder indicates the end in the beginning and the beginning in the end. Life in Death and Death in Life.
Physical: Though one aspect of your life is over, another begins anew.
Mental: Changes from the old will bring creativity, to usher in new ideas and thoughts.
Spiritual: Links are continually formed as new phases of life and experience repeat in different forms that lead to renewal.

November 26

An annual Druidic festival known as the Feast of the Musicians is celebrated by many Witches to honor the ancient Celtic Gods of music. Pagan folk songs are sung around an open fire as various offerings are cast into the flames.

November 29

Fairy Flute Fantasy  - Dedicated to music everywhere.

November 30

A fire festival known as the Night of Hecate was held once a year at the dark moon in November to honor the Goddess Hecate.

Modern witches invoke Hecate for protection and fertility, as she is both protectress of all Witches and an ancient deity associated with fertility. Most of Hecate's worship, and especially on this night, was performed at a three-way crossroad at night. Food was left there as an offering to her. She was known to rule the passages of life and transformation, birth, and death. Her animals were the toad, the owl, the dog, and the bat.

This is the first day of the lunar month of Riuros according to the Coligny calendar of the Gauls. The name means "Cold Time," and the cold is everywhere, demanding to be dealt with. It's the most physically challenging time of the year, a test of your ability to plan, foresee, and troubleshoot.

The month of Riuros lasts from now through December 30th.

Festival of solitude.  The is a day that offers a number of options.  You can revel in doing something for yourself, by yourself.  Eat a meal with the foods you like (that the rest of your family turns up their nose at), go see a movie your S.O. would hate, reaffirm who you are just as you, not as someone's employee, wife or mother.
