This chakra represents our power. Financial and sexual issues are centered her as well as our relationships with others. As the center of our relationships, in addition to power and control, ethics as well as blame and guilt are centered here. This is also the center of all of our creativity. The attachments we have to control our external life are here. The energy in this chakra helps us to develop our personal identity and our psychological boundaries.
The link of power, finances, sex, relationships and creativity are is very strong in our lives. All of those things intertwine and mingle in our lives and also have a dramatic effect on one another. Control issues are primary to this chakra. Our fear of loss of control in relationships, as well as loss of control over ourselves through addictions, betrayal, loss of financial independence, abuse, and abandonment center here. Our fear of loss of control of our own body is another primary fear of this area.
The strengths of this chakra are the ability and stamina to thrive financially and psychologically, the ability to defend and protect ourselves, resilience to recover from loss whether from family, friends, lovers, and in the work place. Our ability to be creative whether in our parenting, in our careers or artistically come from this chakra. Having some form of creativity is essential to we humans.
Power imbalances in our lives, financial struggles, threats of loss in relationships and work can effect this chakra and manifest themselves in our body as chronic lower back pain, ob/gyn health problems, sexual potency, urinary and pelvic disorders.
Self Healing Activities:
- Healing baths to soothe or energize. Ive owned one house with a wonderful bathtub and I found this to be very therapeutic. In fact I actually set up an altar to Kwan Yin next to my bath. (Her request - still dont know why but thats what she told me to do.) In this house we have a hot tub.
- Take time each day to drink tea ceremonially. There are wonderful books on different types of tea ceremonies for the Japanese, the British or the one you make up yourself. This is especially good way to make sure you get your required daily dose of green tea.>
- Drink water, water, water. Flush it all out. When I first started working through my BOTA material I was surprised that they also stressed drinking a large amount of water. This one is a tough one for me since left to my own devices I wont go near the stuff. What does work for me is large quantities of ice tea. Add enough ice and its nothing more than brown colored water anyway.
- Drink solarized water. Dont know why this seems to work but its a great technique when youre working with color magic. Using either a clear glass and orange colored stones or an orange tinted glass or bottle, place pure water out in the early morning sun. At nightfall drink the water with energy and awareness
Exercises to open the second chakra (material from Wingmakers)
These exercises involve working with movement in the hips and lower abdomen. Simple self-nurturing activity, such as long, hot baths, showers or swimming should not be overlooked. Nurturing ourselves is the first step to receiving or giving nurturance to others. The Goddess Pose
Lie flat on your back and relax. Relax especially the legs, pelvis, and lower back. Bend your knees, bringing your feet in close to your buttocks. Slowly allow your knees to part, allowing the weight of the legs to stretch the inner thighs. Try to relax. Do not push your legs farther than is comfortable. Hold this position for two minutes or more. Then slowly bring your knees together again. This puts us in touch with our sexual vulnerability, which paradoxically must be understood before we can fully open ourselves up on this level.
Pelvic Rock
Starting on your back with legs bent, slowly begin to rock your pelvis upward and downward with each breath. Inhale fully into your chest and belly, exhale fully, and upon the end of each exhale, push slightly with your feet so that your pelvis comes off the ground pushing the small of your back into the floor beneath you.
Hip Circles
From a standing position, bend your knees slightly, and drop your pelvis forward so that it is directly in your central line of gravity. Keeping the knees bent and flexible, rotate the pelvis in smaller then larger circles. The head and feet should remain in the same place while the pelvis alone does the moving. Try to make the movement as smooth as possible.
Leg Lifts
This exercise helps move energy through the pelvis, often into the upper chakras. It is a classic Kundalini exercise, and a wonderful energizer.Lie on your back and relax. Lift your legs six to 12 inches off the floor and spread them apart at this height. Bring together again and then kick our again. Rest after about five of these. Then bring your legs perpendicular to the floor and spread to each side. Bring together and down. Repeat until tired. Raising legs should be accompanied by an inhale, while lowering the legs should be accompanied by an exhale. This exercise is a strong Kundalini-raiser with powerful results. It is important not to strain and to avoid sore muscles. Stay in tune with the body.
