Over the years I've played with Feng Shui and I've come to the conclusion that while some elements of it fit rather nicely in our western tradition, other elements are simply too counter cultural to even consider.  The most significant of these is the difference in our view of indoor plumbing.  If you are a westerner then you can rest assured your money will not go down the drain every time you flush the toilet with the lid open, on the other hand if you have a leaky faucet in the kitchen or bathroom, or if these areas are dirty or disorganized then I can promise you all the terrible consequences that the Feng Shui practitioner threaten you with.  The difference, as I said is cultural.  The Disirs (the Scandinavian guardians of the house)  are of course horrified by lack of cleanliness or by waste (a leaky faucet).

The second area where there is no agreement is on the subject of odd shaped houses.  I'm not sure how to explain when there really is a missing but in my experience you'll just know that the yard and house aren't in harmony.

There are two schools of though about how this map should be placed against a dwelling.  One school says that the entrance (front door) can only be in either Career, Helpful people or Knowledge (the black hat school).  The other says that these element are always in the south (the compass school).  I am currently in the process of experimenting with the version that fixes them in the south.  As with everything on this site I'll let you know when I change my mind and try something different

This layout is obviously my own house.  I've drawn it up as a sample of what you should do with your own house and also to keep me organized.

The rooms in my house that are most lived in are the family room, the kitchen, the master bedroom  and my study   (again remember that this is mapped based on the south being the dominate direction.

Over time I'll link this map to pages on individual rooms.
