ChironThis page is a work in process of material found on the web that relate to Chiron in my chart. I build web pages as topics seem relevant to me and then refine them as I understand more and more of the meaning of the topic in my life. To date I've never paid much attention to either the 12th house or to Chiron but the energy is very, very strong right now. Some of that is probably do to the fact that I had a Chiron return last year.I've recently been in correspondence with a woman around my own age. Some of the similarities based on Chiron seem uncanny. Based on discussions with her it seems that Chiron aspects might be stronger than I expected.

Zane Stein writes, "These people need to create some type of order or structure what will not fall apart when other things do, and which, it is hoped, will function after they are gone. They need to feel that they are on THE right path for them, and they deeply believe there is one specific path they must find for themselves. They also believe this is true for others -- that each person has a correct path for himself. The more evolved types believe that each person's path is totally his own; the lesser types believe, once they find a path, that it is for everyone to follow. They have a strong need to succeed at their unique path, and can't stand failure."
Richard Nolle writes, "This Chiron position signifies a survivor, one whose aim is to prevail (and if possible, prosper) despite any adversity. Power and status are important to these people, who measure their own self esteem through the eyes of others.
Gregory J. de Montfort writes: A Capricorn placement of Chiron creates the possibility that we may be living up to parental expectations to achieve where they have failed - carrying other's burdens is often a theme, particularly that of the mother. Feelings of inadequacy and that you are not acknowledged for your true worth can also be issues. Chiron's special gift here is the acknowledgement of your own value. To recognize yourself and where your gifts lie. To listen and hear the messages of your own heart, see your special place in the Universe, and to help others do the same.
Chiron in the 12th house
Chiron in the twelfth house indicates that the wounding/healing experience (as described by Chiron's sign placement) plays itself out through the sphere of life that has to do with hidden, unconscious or transcendent experiences.
For you, the path to healing may lie in accessing and expunging secret, subliminal, or unconscious issues that constitute festering wounds. There may be a sense of "karmic fatedness" associated with your encounters with certain mentor or healer figures; spiritual mentors could have a very healing or wounding influence upon you.Everything in the Universe is an act of love - it is just that sometimes you don't recognize the form that love takes. Also, look at what you are doing in your life now, and list the ways in which the past 'betrayals' of the Universe have helped you to get there. There are no 'accidents' in life.
Chiron's gift here lies in your ability to acknowledge and re-embrace the guiding hand, the Master Plan. To open your heart once more to love and the Creator. To see that all things that happen in life serve to teach compassion and love.
12th House is the 'collective wound'. When outside the orbit of Saturn, around 7º Sagittarius to 10º Leo, Chiron brings a lack of centering in the self, bringing a relative freedom from ego, together with a feeling of having sustained a fundamental loss of some facet of the self or the awareness thereof; the need to regain what is lost; the seeking of learning and development through connection with and involved activity in the outside world; and the aptitude for concretizing whatever inspirations and discoveries are made on that journey. Furthermore, whatever its distance at the moment of birth, if natal Chiron is approaching perihelion, the life direction is shown to favor the outward expression of the existing personal world, while if it is approaching aphelion it favors the intake of transpersonal or spiritual energies.

Not everyone will be sensitive to the influence of Chiron. As a guide, Melanie Reinhart offers the following chart precepts to work with, and should two or more be present in a chart, you can feel relatively safe that Chiron's influence will be felt, and that the themes of Chiron by sign and house will resonate and be relevant in the life of the person.
a) Chiron conjunct any of the angles
b) Chiron conjunct or square the Moon's nodes
c) Chiron aspecting many planets, especially the Sun, Moon or Ascendant ruler.
d) Chiron focal according to the "Jones Patterns" of the chart
e) Sagittarius or Virgo on the Midheaven or Ascendant
f) Chiron in either Sagittarius or Virgo
g) A Stellium of planets in Sagittarius or VirgoIn our own charts, Chiron represents (and is given definition, by sign, house placement and aspect) where we feel fundamentally wounded. He also embodies our dualities and inner contradictions: where we have the potential to be both godlike and human; instinctive and reasoning; where we feel most rejected and ashamed, but where, too, we have the capacity to heal.
The fact that Chiron has been so difficult to categorize is emblematic of the Wounded Healer's dilemma: that of feeling unable to find one's niche or place in the world. Hence Chiron in our charts also represents where we feel disenfranchised and where we can contribute most to those who themselves feel to be outcasts.
Chiron, himself an accomplished teacher and healer, is thought to be prominent in the charts of healers, astrologers and spiritual teachers. The glyph or symbol of Chiron is both, the key and the key-hole; so many consider that Chiron provides both the key and the access to the kingdom, the pathway of our magical quest or to our ultimate purpose. The symbolism goes further to say that embodied in the primal wounding of a being, either physically, spiritually or incarnationally, is the secret to their healing.
Once mastered, this healing can be taught, through practical application or example, as a powerful antidote to others to transform their wounds into profound sources of healing.
Transiting Chiron in Capricorn (December 2001-February 2005, returning briefly to Capricorn from August until December 2005 before moving on to Aquarius)
Chiron, the wounded Healer continues His movement through the sign of Capricorn, the sign associated with spiritual revelation and expansion. According to legend Chiron, King of the Centaurs, was a healer and spiritual leader of the Light who sacrificed His immortality for the greater good.Chiron has now arrived at Vega, the Star of Cosmic Consciousness. On one turn of the spiral Chiron represents Hierarchy's Great Sacrifice - requested and received. On another turn of the spiral, our racial, national and personal sacrifices awaits us. The mythological Chiron sacrificed His immortality that Light descend on Earth. Chiron's arrival at Vega heralds the incoming energies of the Christmas Festival of 2003/4.
Opportunities for expansion on many levels are available at this time. Cosmic expansion will bring an unprecedented influx of Light, and the subsequent arising of shadow from within the mental, astral and physical levels of Earth. Light, Love and Power will descend in mighty torrents of Cosmic Love.
Chiron Return
It can be a time of great power. You can overcome the most frustrating limitations now---the most mind-boggling obstacles. The house Chiron occupies indicates the area from whence the potential power can be drawn---and during the Chiron return you have the greatest potential to control and utilize this great power.
Chiron is often viewed as a way to TAP the power of this natal house, and at the return, the potential exists to turn the tap wide open. But consider carefully how you handle this power. The best way, it seems, is:
1. Consider exactly in what ways you have let Saturn restrict you. How have you felt really secure behind some wall, so that you did not venture out into the world ? Where have you ignored, or repressed, chances for growth?
2. Watch for ways to take true steps outside of your walls---they will be coming at the Chiron return.
3. Look for ways to be of real help to others, who can profit from your experience. But do it with light, not force and ego.
4. And, most important, learn to live in the NOW. If Chiron is tied into the universal light, and this light comes from the Creator of all things, then the light must exist in past, present and future. If you live for today, the other two will take care of themselves. Corinthians 2:17---‘Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty’.Turning 50, or thereabouts (for some, it is 49; other's 51) marks a new paradigm, as Chiron returns to its natal position. This momentous watershed delineates the end of the heroic youth, as we enter the realm of "elder. Like the Chinese character for crisis, the Chiron Return represents a "dangerous opportunity." Here, we revisit ancient patterns; have the opportunity to go back to the source of our deepest, unresolved wounds; to heal them, once and for all, so that we can live the remainder of our lives in keeping with our true soul purpose.
During this critical time, we may relinquish that which is misshapen or inauthentic; we may re-order our priorities; or liberate the unlived passionate expression of our spirit, living a life which is intimately creative and restorative to our true selves. By accomplishing this, we can congruently contribute to the fundamental healing of ourselves, our family or soul group; our society, and our planet.
Some say, however, that it may not be possible to fully understand the repercussions of this passage, until Chiron itself has completed an entire cycle, in the year 2028, 51 years after its discovery.
Astrologers try to describe Chiron with terms like "wounded-healer" and "shape-shifter." I think we need to use verbs. Change. Transform. Relate. Integrate. Experience. Chiron and the Centaurs are relationship catalysts; experiential enzymes. Their evolutionary function is shifting perception through relationships. They create opportunities for you to become, or remember, more of you.
Chiron creates evolutionary reactions by helping us remember what parts of ourselves we are keeping separate from the other parts. Some of us keep our hearts separate from our heads, some of us keep our bodies separate from our spirits, and some of us keep the masculine parts separate from the feminine parts. Our relationships are Chiron laboratories. When the reaction is over, something's going to be different.
When Chiron is in Capricorn (which it is four out of every 40 years, including now), the emphasis is on shifting the structure of relationships. As a karmic catalyst, Chiron doesn't discriminate about the type of relationship. Marriage and partnerships, sexuality, career, religion, and parent/child relationships, are all fair game. Chiron in Capricorn likes to break the rules that say, "This is the way it's always done."
Chiron in Capricorn asks you to experience evolution by recreating yourself and your relationships. In Saturn, Chiron and the Centaurs, To the Edge and Beyond, Melanie Reinhart says this type of experience can be "like trying to get to the inside through the outside, always looking for the doorway in." It is an essential need to find or reconnect with your center, your foundation.
Right now, Chiron is in the early degrees (about 4) of Capricorn. Chiron entered Capricorn in January 2002. It will be in Capricorn until March 2005, and will then retrograde back into Capricorn from August through December 2005.
Everything and everybody is subject to accelerated evolution through Chiron in Capricorn. We're all going through it, but some of us are going to feel it a little faster or stronger. If you know your chart, astrologers typically use orbs of 5 - 10 degrees of difference between natal and transit positions to decide if a transit is active. With the centaurs, go with Bob Marley -- "He who feels it, knows it."
The timing of Chiron's cycles can be highly personal. The return can be active for a year or not depending on other chart placements or transits. Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, can especially extend the transformational, initiatory process beyond the "active" transit period. If you're in the return, you probably don't need an astrologer to tell you about change. Your partner, your kids, your parents, your boss, and your bank account, have probably been doing a pretty good job. And, how's your body feeling about gravity these days.
The Chiron return, especially the Chiron return in Capricorn, is similar to the Saturn return. They are both a transition period, a coming of age. In this culture, age is not usually welcomed. It is often a challenge to come of age, and to come of wisdom. It is a challenge to remember creativity that is beyond biological. In some traditions, however, reaching the age of the Chiron return meant that you were finally an adult.
If you aren't in the return, but your current experience is pretty dramatic, or at least physically noticeable, you may also be feeling Chiron's presence. You may have a lot of planetary placements, or one of the big ones like the Sun, in the early degrees of Capricorn. For example, if you think that taking a very long nap might be the best answer to the changes in your life, you could be experiencing a hard Chiron transit. Chiron in Capricorn can be a time when depression becomes a very serious health concern. It challenges you to continue to create a life that you want to live.
If you don't know where Chiron and/or Capricorn are in your chart, ask yourself what relationships really define who you are. What parts of your life do you like to keep stable and structured? These can be areas that are under a Capricorn influence. Pay attention to how you feel physically when you image these relationships or parts of your life changing. If you actually hear the sound of a sphincter squeaking, pay attention.
You might have a little too much of your security invested in that particular area.
In her book on Chiron, Barbara Hand Clow suggests that when Chiron is in Capricorn, material achievements are questioned or dissolve. If material achievement has been given priority over human or spiritual interaction, or visa versa, I agree that Chiron will help create opportunities to change this balance. Clow also suggests that listening is one of the keys to working with Chiron in Capricorn. What is the situation or relationship telling you? Get the message.
Another way of working with the energy of Chiron in Capricorn is by examining the unwritten rules and agreements of your relationships. Look honestly at how your perceptions of identity and worth are shaped by those rules and agreements. Look at how you define being alive.
Remember, you are looking for the way in, not out.1. Your time here on earth is limited--you aren't going to live forever like you thought when you were a twenty-something..
2. You give deep thought to what you want to leave behind; that you've somehow contributed to the better good of all humanity
3. You take stock of your life and if you don't like what you've got currently, you sure do change it during this timeframe :-)
4. For those who have been 'stuck' with responsibility, this is also a time of freeing up for them and they get to go "play" now--it's their turn :-)
5. If you have repressed, denied or crammed a lot of hard emotional feelings/trauma reaction, deep into you and not worked on venting it and removing it, you can get ill at this time. Chronic disease is well known to take hold at this time. If you sail through it and you aren't getting ill, then you know you've been working hard to clean your own, inner house :-)
6. It gives you more maturity, more patience, more macrocosmically understanding of human beings; you lose a lot of your personal prejudices, hatred, anger, or whatever because you perceive them through a different lens of reality. The good news is this lens remains in place (I had my Chiron return 3 years ago...so I feel I can speak to this a little).
7. There is an intense, inner digging into the self. A looking, weighing and measuring of things that have occurred in your life--and you either keep 'em or toss 'em out.
8. You want to do things, complete things/visions/dreams/goals at this time. You plan your life carefully around this one goal or intent. In doing so, you change a lot of your habits or the way you live your life.
9. You realize you need to take time out and smell the flowers....
