Tenth House Journal
2004

Nov 11 - December 2

This seems to have been the period of time when I completely stopped keeping this journal.  I will attempt to reconstruct some of what happened during this period of time.

November 11

Sent out budget figures to a prospective client.  They have local offices which could make this an attractive account.

Sent out a resume to a local company for a job I was completely qualified for - decided to test whether or not I got more response if I truncated some of my experience.  We'll see.

November 12

RK and I took the kids to see the Incredibles.  I liked it

November 14th

Went to the modern day equivalent of a Tupperware party.  Ordered a large plate rack.  I hope it works out.

November 15th

Spent my time making sure that this version of the slides was in decent shape.

November 16th

Talked to another potential client and arranged to do a demo when I got back from the east coast.

I'm not sure why packing is always such a struggle.  I did have it down to a science and then I got out of practice.  This trip actually seemed to be a little less stressful than my others but there were still things I wanted to pack that I didn't find.

November 17th

 - Left for Boston for a meeting.

 November 18th

Met a friend for lunch and had him review my presentation.  His comments as always were excellent and I ended up making deciding to make a number of  changes

Spent the rest of the afternoon in the coffee shop changing about 25% of my slides.  This is obviously a pretty risky thing to do given that I'll be talking to over 100 people in a few hours.

Did the Dog and Pony show and managed to pull it off.  I was suppose to speak for an hour and it spoke for exactly 58 minutes.  The real significance of this presentation was it was for the group that served as the inspiration for my professional writing career.  9 years ago I attended a meeting and listened to the speaker and said "He's got the right idea.  He's just using the wrong words."  Since that I've published over 40 columns.  Maybe not the best performance for nine years but it is what it is.

 November 19th

Got a mid morning flight home from Boston

Went through Chicago with a three hour lay-over.  I can always think of things I'd rather do than run around O'Hare

November 20-21st

Spent the weekend finishing up the 4th part of a series of columns I started 6 years ago.

November 22

Did a web demo with my associate for a local client.  I thought the demo went reasonably well.

Had my weekly meeting with some of my associates.  I think these meetings are as much therapy sessions as they are business development.

November 23

Decided to split up the cooking for turkey day.  I'll do the cranberry pie, the cranberry relish, the sweet potatoes, the first course and the dressing for the turkey.

November 24

Worked on getting some of the cooking done early.

November 25

RK got a free range bird and it was one of the nicest birds I've cooked in years.

Seems we had as much cooking to do as we would if we were cooking the whole dinner.

Headed back to RK about 4:00 for a nice dinner.  I think the menu came together better this year than it has in years.

November 26

Decided to do some grocery shopping at a new store.  The price point for vegetables was about half what we're paying at our high end markets here.  We got a call from a friend asking us to come to the movies, so we got our trip short and headed home.  Threw the perishables in the fridge and headed out to the theater.

- Do not try and go to the theater the day after thanksgiving.  The shows were all sold out so we rushed home and our friends decided to come to our house to watch videos.  Picked up Pizza and vegetarian food for dinner

Picked the dog from the groomers at 8:30pm.  At least he smells better than he did

November 27

Spent most of the day updating the calendar section of this web site.  Doing the annual calendar is about a 40 to 50 hour process that I grumble about every year.  Got Jan and Feb done.

Decided to be couch potatoes for the rest of the evening.

November 28

Went to the Science Center with the kids.  Have to admit I was somewhat disappointed for some reason there didn't seem to be much to hold an adults interest.

The only thing I saw that was interesting was the owl butterfly.  Seems appropriate for this site.

November 29

Decided to go shopping.  Got some pants and a top.  Hope the pants finally work out.  I'm somewhat between sizes now and things don't fit right.

December 2nd

Bought some flowers for my dining room center piece.  I'm going to talk RD into doing it for me since in a prior life he used to be a florist and he's very good at it

Had a nice evening of dinner and a jazz performance for hubby's birthday.  Not a performer we were familiar with but she gave a great show.
