"Séanmhar Moch Bliain" Cardea said to me as I walked into her solar. "You've been so busy there's been no time to talk."
"I know, I'm sorry, but there's at least a lull in the storm. Or at least I thought there was. Seems I have real work to do tomorrow. But right now I'm here." I plopped down in one of the arm chairs close to the fire. "I'm not sure I know which direction is up. The last two years have been hard to understand, and I'm not sure if any of the signs for this year actually mean anything."
"So share with me your portents. What comes by chance? What comes by gift? What comes by observation?
"I'll start with what comes by gift. My flower for this year was given to me by someone who is striving to help me on my world. She seems a most knowledgeable and caring woman. Our relationship is client to professional so she will not be replacing Louise but I am honored by her help. She gave me an amaryllis. The gift was verbal. She said without knowing our customs that I should strive to emulate the amaryllis because it has a strong stem and won't bend under the weight of the flower."
"What a wonderful gift. How will you make it real?"
"I have a red silk amaryllis that I set out at Christmas. I'll probably use that until I get something else. My portent by observation was a pair of eagles flying outside my office window. I have never before seen eagles in the wild as I did last week."
"A pair of eagles. I think that is a good sign. Leadership but shared with another. And your color?"
"That was drawn by chance but it's rightness is very strong this year. Turquoise is the color. It's actually one I've always liked."
"So where are you placing your altar and how will you arrange your portents?"
"I've decided to put it in my office on top of the bookcase -- it's to the west but that's where it seems to need to go this year. All I have on it at the moment is the picture I made with the two eagles against a turquoise colored landscape."
