Journey to Ban

January 2, 2002

One secret of the other world is that it evolves much like our own world.  A Shaman at the time of the cave paintings in L... would have seen the otherworld as a looking glass version of his or her own world.  Our inner eyes can only see or hear those things that we have words or concepts to allow us to recognize.  In my mind Ban is a giant university town, and the people places and things I find there are all the things I generally expect to find in a university town.

It was with that understanding that I wasn't the least surprised when Yansa opened the door to Professor Pyerun's office and I saw a rather small, cramped office with just enough space for floor to ceiling book cases, a desk, three file cabinets and  two wooden visitors chairs set in front of the desk.

"Ah, Yansa, there you are.  And this must be Freya"  A short man with dark reddish hair  extended his hand to me in greeting."

"I appreciate you taking the time to meet with me."

Turning back toward his desk he motioned me to be seated in one of his visitors chairs. "Professor Sothis was your Advisor was she not while you were here?  Would you like to wait to see her or will I do for the moment?"

In the other world it is usually best to talk the the one who has chosen to meet with you.  What ever I'm searching for it seems the powers that be judge Pyerun a better guide.  "I'd be honored to have any help you might give me Professor".

"Yansa tells me you're thinking of earning your masters certification in our fair land, true?

"I honestly don't know.  I've forgotten how to be disciplined and I'm not sure I have the drive to do what you'll ask of me. but some how the thought never completely leaves me.  I just don't know if I'm up to the challenge"

"So that means you won't even try?"  He gazed at me quizzically.

"Coward is a label I don't wear well.  My need to come and speak with you is that I've wondered around for a while and I haven't accomplished anything tangible.  I've lost focus and the energy to do anything seems to have disappeared.  I think Cardea hopes that you'll help me."

"It depends of course.  If you're looking for the certainty of success; the guarantee that you will not be wasting your time, I don't think I can help.  Since you control the ultimate outcome only you can determine success or failure and only you can even really know the odds of either."

"Professor, many years ago someone told me that 'while all things are possible under heaven, all things are not possible for us'.  I'm attempting to explore what is possible and what is in keeping with my life's path. "

Shaking his head he interrupted.  "Nonsense.  If you get focused you can do anything and everything.  After all when have you ever been a woman who chose to walk a linear path.  Tell me why are you thinking twice about any of this.  Do you need approval, or accolades?  You simply need to find your motive and your center.  You're welcome in any of the lands.  You've friends and helpmates, use us.  Let us help where you need help."

"Thank you Professor Pyerun's.  I haven't made my decision but I've heard what you've said and I think I should pay a call on Bui."
