Second Visit to the
Cave of the Winds

April 6, 2007

Aeolos welcomed me when I reached the cave.  I don't know what I expected but inside the cave was a fire pit surrounded by bean bag chairs.  There were also lanterns affixed to the cave wall.  Also of a sudden I found that my mind had wandered somewhere else completely and it was with a wrench of effort that I turned my attention back to Aeolos.

I handed him the cigars and the oranges and then found I had a boda bag billed with red wine.  He motioned me to one of the chairs and then tossed a cigar my way.  I looked at him like he was crazy and he said -- "no ill effects from smoking here so go ahead, live a little".  I took an orange out of the bag and then cut the skin with my small fruit knife.  I sectioned the rest of the skin and tossed it over to him.  We sat companionably for a few minutes and then I found my mind had wandered somewhere else again.  It was at this point that I realized this wasn't my poor attention -- it was a property of the cave.  The average person would just find themselves gone and not even remember having come to the cave in the first place.

I apologized and asked Aeolos if he could help.  He said it was possible to ground me to his reality but it might be a little more permanent than I might wish.  He told me to just try to focus a little more and to tell him what I wanted of him.  I was surprised when I answered - nothing but his company and found I meant it from the bottom of my heart.  I was just enjoying being with him and found that there was nothing I needed or wanted other than that.

He made some silly remark about his lonely life sitting around the cave and I burst out laughing.  I told him I knew his secret.  The cave was a transdimensional portal and as soon as I left he'd be out the door and back to where ever he was really spending his time.  We did talk a little about the ramifications of an immortal society and he asked me to please spend some time with Avar.  He reminded me that I get on quite well with young men and that Leoithne, who I have checked on, is doing just fine.

Not sure what I hoped to gain by the visit but I certainly appreciated the wonderful feeling I had spending time with him.
